Accelerating TB Elimination Globally through Catalytic Investments

Through the Tuberculosis Implementation Framework Agreement (TIFA), JSI has awarded 160+ grants across 17 countries to accelerate progress toward national TB priorities. In India, TIFA-funded activities reached 2.1 million people and guided the development, evaluation, and institutionalization of differentiated TB care models. In Uganda, TIFA funding strengthened pediatric case detection by adapting national training modules, expanding child-friendly stool-based testing, and supporting 123+ GeneXpert facilities. These activities quadrupled testing volume and pediatric TB notification, while generating momentum to cascade improved practices to 67 facilities and accelerate country ownership of the TB response.

Building Resilient Health Systems and Surveillance in Pakistan

JSI has partnered with the Government of Pakistan to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases. We helped operationalize the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response system, resulting in reporting on 40+ diseases, real-time provincial dashboards, and 7-1-7 aligned outbreak detection targets. We trained and mentored rapid response teams to investigate and deploy outbreak responses and helped roll out infection prevention and control standards across 57 hospitals. As part of this integrated health security approach, we are accelerating Pakistan’s TB response in 16 high-burden districts, where we identified 1,580 new TB cases with a 92% enrollment rate and initiated 12,000+ people on preventive treatment.

Supporting Country Vaccine Prioritization and Optimization for Disease Prevention

JSI supports ministries of health in selecting, introducing, and optimizing vaccines to ensure immunization programs remain responsive to evolving country needs. We have assisted more than 30 countries in developing and submitting over 100 Gavi vaccine applications for vaccine introductions and switches across more than eight diseases. In the last 15 years, we have supported over 20 countries in Africa and Asia to prioritize and optimize vaccine introductions and product and schedule switches, including four prioritization workshops in 2023–2025.
