Bridging the Gap Between Innovation and Access

Validating Next-Generation AI Diagnostics

Frontline community health workers in rural malaria-endemic settings face challenges in accurately determining malaria species, which can lead to misdiagnosis and improper management. JSI successfully validated an AI-powered digital malaria rapid diagnostic test that achieved 100% accuracy in identifying deadly malaria species, leading to more accurate prescriptive behaviors. The system also flagged manufacturing faults in 30% of new diagnostic kits, serving as a critical quality-control safeguard. This integration of AI with the electronic community health information system proved that manufacturers can verify product performance to inform future scale-up.

Securing Market Predictability through Global Data Visibility

Lack of shared visibility in global supply chains leads to uncoordinated procurement decisions, resulting in shortages, avoidable waste, and inefficient allocation of resources in LMICs. JSI is part of the technical backbone for the Global Family Planning Visibility and Analytics Network, acting as the "control tower" for supply decisions. Between 2020 and 2024, JSI experts helped mobilize over $155 million in new orders in LMIC markets while avoiding waste through $5.4 million in cancelled or transferred orders. By providing manufacturers with a common set of shared data, we prevent overproduction and mitigate supply shortages, ensuring commercial predictability in volatile markets.

Accelerating Market Entry for HPV Vaccines

The transition from regulatory approval to national distribution of life-saving vaccines—like those for HPV—can be long and can leave millions of people at risk. Operating through the HPV Vaccine Acceleration Program Partners Initiative (HAPPI) consortium, we advised clients across 25 countries on vaccine entry, contributing to the immunization of 34.1 million young women since 2023 in key markets, including Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. By closing evidence gaps in sustaining delivery, JSI moves manufacturers from regulatory submission to large-scale routine immunization with speed.

Proving Feasibility for Long-Acting Injectables in Zambia

Despite innovations in HIV prevention, limited access to new therapies has hindered epidemic control. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Zambia, JSI demonstrated the successful rollout of next-generation HIV prevention therapy, including long-acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA). Within the first year, JSI reached over 1,400 clients with a 97% continuation rate for the second dose. This high level of client acceptability and retention provides the essential "proof of concept" required for life sciences companies to scale specialty long-acting injectables in complex health systems.
