Strengthening Health Security to Protect Communities

We scale up proven prevention and detection interventions through integrated primary care and community-led health platforms. Whether responding to emerging outbreaks or long-standing challenges like viral hepatitis and tuberculosis, we strengthen health security to protect communities around the world.

Our Partnership Approach

We provide advisory services to help partners navigate shifting scientific and policy landscapes. By developing practical tools and facilitating learning communities, we equip health systems to implement high-quality, whole-person care.
Optimizing Vaccine Management and Data Exchange in Massachusetts

JSI works with immunization providers throughout Massachusetts, focusing on data quality and interoperability within the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS). We process vaccine orders for the state’s Vaccine Program and support quality improvement strategies to increase on-time vaccination for children and adolescents in the Vaccines for Children program. Currently, JSI provides technical assistance to 400 immunization providers on vaccine administration and management and to over 4,200 health care organizations on MIIS enrollment, data exchange, and reporting to maximize vaccine coverage across the Commonwealth.

Expanding Health Access and HIV Prevention in Zambia

JSI partnered with Zambia’s Ministry of Health and local partners to improve access to quality, integrated health services and accelerate progress towards HIV epidemic control. We provided HIV treatment services to over 80,000 people, achieving 98% viral suppression. By supporting the rollout of oral PrEP and CAB-LA to expand prevention choice and access across over 200 clinics and community platforms, 194,000 new PrEP users enrolled nationally over three years. To strengthen pandemic preparedness, we equipped teaching hospitals with liquid oxygen systems to improve critical care capacity and supported the national COVID-19 response, contributing to vaccination coverage reaching 70% of eligible Zambians.

Accelerating TB Elimination Globally through Catalytic Investments

Through the Tuberculosis Implementation Framework Agreement (TIFA), JSI has awarded 160+ grants across 17 countries to accelerate progress toward national TB priorities. In India, TIFA-funded activities reached 2.1 million people and guided the development, evaluation, and institutionalization of differentiated TB care models. In Uganda, TIFA funding strengthened pediatric case detection by adapting national training modules, expanding child-friendly stool-based testing, and supporting 123+ GeneXpert facilities. These activities quadrupled testing volume and pediatric TB notification, while generating momentum to cascade improved practices to 67 facilities and accelerate country ownership of the TB response.

Despite years of progress, malaria remains one of Ethiopia’s most persistent and pressing public health threats. As one of Africa’s most malaria-endemic nations, a considerable portion of its population (approximately 70%) resides in areas burdened by the disease.
