Responsive to Community Needs

We apply research best practices to advise decision-makers on policy impacts and program design so that policies and programs are evidence-based and responsive to community needs.

National, State, and Local Expertise

We provide the tools and expertise needed to drive sustainable systems change. By adapting our approach to specific national, state, and local priorities and population needs, we enable policy and program shifts that result in lasting, community-focused impact.
Building a Comprehensive System of Care in New Hampshire

JSI provides consultation and support for the New Hampshire Governor’s Commission on Addiction, Treatment, and Prevention and its Task Forces to develop and recommend evidence-informed policies across the prevention, treatment, and recovery sectors. JSI’s long-term partnership with member organizations and local providers has helped develop and sustain a system of care. We conducted data analysis related to the ongoing opioid crisis, as well as the participatory development of New Hampshire’s statewide plan to address addiction.

Using Better Data for Better Service Use in Ethiopia

Through the Data Use Partnership project, JSI works with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and local universities to drive research and policy by producing vital evidence on how well-functioning health information systems can improve primary health care. The partnership has resulted in an increase in health data reporting from as low as 21% per region to an average 91%. Increased evidence use has informed programming that has resulted in a 36% increase in full immunization access among children and a 25% increase in modern contraception use.

Informing Massachusetts State Health Policy and Resource Planning

JSI is partnering with the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission on three initiatives to inform statewide resource planning. We are conducting a qualitative needs assessment of the child and youth behavioral health workforce to identify factors driving retention and recruitment. We are evaluating patient experiences with remote blood pressure monitoring to improve outcomes for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. JSI is also providing expertise for Massachusetts’ first state health planning effort in a decade, analyzing health care resource supply and the impact of maternity unit closures. Collectively, this work provides the evidence base needed to strengthen the workforce and align resource distribution with community needs.
