The HCDExchange is a knowledge hub and market shaper for driving supply and demand for locally-led human-centered design and Public Health (HCD + Public Health). The HCDExchange spearheads knowledge and engagement around design for health, stimulates workforce development, and provides technical guidance and assistance for country-based public health actors to integrate design into their practice. The HCDExchange convenes a global Community of Practice (CoP) that drives, shares and increases learning to help shape this field. The CoP comprises implementers, funders, designers, evaluators, and youth who share our vision. We focus on low-resource settings, with a particular focus on countries in Africa and Asia.

Purpose of the role: 

We are seeking a Drupal Site Builder / Developer (consultant) who will be responsible for building the Insights Platform website, in coordination with other members of the Web Team. Their primary responsibilities will be to suggest, install, and configure modules; configure entities (content, media, blocks, taxonomies, etc); build Views; and write front-end framework- and theme-specific HTML (and potentially CSS, Javascript, and Twig), among other tasks. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, responsive, well-versed in and passionate about Drupal site-building and theming (Drupal 8/9/10), comfortable with Git-based workflows, and able to set up a local development environment on their laptop. The Drupal Site Builder / Developer should be based in Africa and preferably in East Africa.

Responsibilities

  • Suggest, require, deploy, enable, and configure Drupal modules
  • Configure entity types (content, media, blocks, taxonomies, etc) and bundles, including field, form, and display management
  • Create and manage content provided by team members
  • Use the Views module to build various displays of site data
  • Write front-end framework- and theme-specific HTML (and probably bits of CSS, Javascripts, and Twig)
  • Manually test the site to ensure features meet requirements
  • Be available for and attend (and actively participate in) meetings with Web Team colleagues
  • Provide basic documentation of features, if requested
  • Keep track of and document daily activities and deliverables

Application Requirements 

  • At least two years of experience working with Drupal version 8 or above
  • Must reside in and be qualified to working in the Global South, with a preference for East Africa, Kenya in particular
  • Must have a portfolio you can show to the team, highlighting your contributions
  • Must have a laptop capable of running Docker
  • Must be comfortable using Git for version control / code deployment
  • Must be comfortable writing HTML, with a preference for proficiency in CSS, Javascript, and Twig
  • Preference for candidates with a Drupal.org profile or a history of involvement in the Drupal community
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English
