Through the Integrated Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery (IHSS-SD) Activity, JSI advances Pakistan’s preparedness for infectious diseases, including polio, TB, and emerging health threats. We drive major health system reforms through policy development, health systems strengthening, and infrastructure improvements.
We facilitate the development of policies strengthening field epidemiology and laboratory, and contribute to post-devolution restructuring. We support antimicrobial resistance and infection prevention and control initiatives by improving health systems' capacity. We have made significant upgrades to the national health information systems, supervisory systems, district planning systems, and national training management system. JSI strengthened integrated disease surveillance, establishing Disease Surveillance and Response Units across 157 districts, and expanding digital platforms to enable timely outbreak detection. We have worked with frontline workers, service providers, health managers, intensive care unit service staff, and multi-sectoral rapid response teams, building their capacity on prevent–detect–respond framework and national guidelines.
This progress in global health security is built on a partnership with Pakistan’s National Institute of Health, Provincial Directorates General of Health Services, Provincial Disease Surveillance and Response Units, and Health Care Commissions. This work is implemented with a clear focus on long-term government ownership and continuity. The project is implemented with support from two local partners, Contech International and Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN).
