The Mondelez International-funded CocoaLife Quality Education Project addresses the challenges of child labor and poor education quality in cocoa communities by strengthening the capacity of School Management Committees (COGES).
World Education, a JSI Initiative, is building on a years-long partnership with Mondelez International to measurably improve education quality and reduce the risk of child labor in 65 communities in the Gbôklé, Nawa, San-Pedro, and Loh-Djiboua regions. Outcomes include improved COGES functioning and the development of better quality school improvement plans.
World Education leads implementation using its extensive experience in COGES strengthening for over two decades in West Africa and in Côte d’Ivoire since 2012. Activities include conducting capacity assessments, training COGES members, coaching district education advisors, and supporting COGES in community involvement strategies that sustain educational improvements. The Government of Côte d’Ivoire has adopted our COGES strengthening models for national use, and the Ministry of Women, Family, and Children granted World Education an honorary diploma, formally recognizing our support.
The project aligns with Mondelez International's 2030 Vision and contributes to the larger CocoaLife intervention executed in partnership with Mondelez International and involves collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and Literacy (MENA) and the Ministry of Women, Families, and Children (MFFE).
