The UNFPA Pacific Islands technical assistance project addresses the need to improve the use of data for program and supply chain management, as well as to strengthen and optimize supply chain design and tools in Pacific Island Countries and Territories. The overarching goal is to enhance product availability and ensure end-to-end data visibility, ultimately reducing supply disruptions. Our partnership with UNFPA has optimized Commodity Logistics Management Systems in more than seven countries, built family planning implementers’ capacity in quantification and forecasting, and improved data availability through the routine implementation of Health Facility Readiness and Service Availability (HFRSA) assessments and the Spot Check tool. This focus on data use has led to an average 40% reduction in regional family planning commodity stockouts. This focus on data use has guided critical health actions like assisting Fiji with COVID-19 preparedness, supporting service readiness in Samoa during a measles outbreak, and enabling Fiji, Kiribati, Tonga, and Vanuatu to strengthen their service delivery policies. JSI, in partnership with UNFPA, delivers these vital outcomes by transforming regional supply chain systems and data utilization.
