The Improve Primary Health Care Service Delivery Project optimizes the national Health Extension Program, the foundation of primary health care in Ethiopia. Operating across nine regions, JSI works alongside the Ministry of Health to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health and nutrition outcomes. To enhance access to high-quality, person-centered care, we employ innovative strategies such as deploying over 8,000 village health leaders to serve as vital liaisons between communities and health providers, which has resulted in health care reaching the most vulnerable populations. We have also implemented a male engagement strategy that champions men’s roles as clients, supportive partners, and enablers of health services. Further, we established "Networks of Care," enabling primary health providers to communicate and learn from one another. We also launched the Combined Community-Facility Quality Improvement approach to ensure standards are met, and the voices of communities are infused into health system improvement approaches. The project is being implemented in partnership with Amref Health Africa.
